Who we Are

There are a lot of accidents, and they are no more or less than an unlucky accident no fault of the individual and we should refrain from judging the situation unless on the facts.

  1. He was on a friends land
  2. He was a 1/2 mile off the road
  3. He was in an open field and had his machine under control
  4. He hit a blind ditch that was not marked.
  5. He had his safety equipment on
  6. He is a rider with over 20 years of experience
(A 'blind' ditch is one covered with grass or weeds; the country generally is blind and 'hairy' in early autumn).

Blind Ditch was formed in 2000 during post-graduate research in Theatre and Music at Dartington College of Arts. We are a project funded group who collaborate in different constellations according to our skills and passion for the work we instigate. We have a strong shared interest in the crossover between fine arts practice, poetic performance events and design. We work with video and new media exploring the simultaneity of live and mediated presence. We make Live Theatre and Performance, Socially Engaged and Travelling Art and Participatory Arts projects working in communities. Each action we make in these different environments is a dynamic moment of negotiation that shifts between our visions of local and global landscapes.

Amongst other things Blind Ditch were graduate company in residence at Dartington College between 2002-04 supported by the HEFCE/DTI Business Fellow,  and recipients of an Arts Council Arts Matrix Reflective Practitioner bursary in 2003. During this time our core group adjusted to include artists trained in other places ... from other worlds. Alongside our performance practice we now run a participatory media project in rural Devon called VANLAND. Most recently Blind Ditch were awarded an Arts Council England grant for Organisational Development.
